Abstract Background Cartilage degeneration is assessed using various methods. Although macroscopic evaluation can directly measure cartilage degeneration, it cannot accurately assess properties. Histological examination one of the most accurate methods for evaluating degeneration. However, invasive and requires collection tissue. In contrast, Arthro-BST™ probe properties noninvasively. This study aimed to evaluate effectiveness Arthro-BST in assessing by comparing (International Repair Society [ICRS] classification) histological evaluations (modified Mankin score Osteoarthritis Research International [OARSI] grade). Methods Fourteen femoral heads were excised from 13 patients during surgery treat hip osteoarthritis or fracture.
